| Most people in their time have brought home a class photo from their school. Sometimes these are put in albums, more often than not they are filed away in drawers, cupboards and cardboard boxes of some description. However, like photos of sports teams, they represent a valuable source of information for people researching family history.
The Society is pleased to make available what it holds in its archive, but we need your help too. As in the case of team photos, the year the photo was taken, and the names of the people in it, are sadly often missing by the time the photos reach us. Therefore, if you browse the galleries and recognise yourself, a relative or an old friend whose name is missing from the caption, please get in touch with us. Also, please let us know if you believe the year to be incorrect - many photos have been donated with words like "This would have been in about 1956". By progressive research and elimination, we hope to be able to assemble a more or less definitive record, but until then, we are utterly dependent on the information we are given. For a guide on determining what age you would have been and/or which year it would have been, click here. If you have photos of your own which you would be willing to share with us, we would be only too pleased to add them here. We have now exhausted our catalogue of photos for St Mary's, East Lea, Council Infants and Meadowside Schools. We are working through the Council Junior School photos now, but once we have put them on-line, we can only add to what we offer here if you and others help us.
