Gilliatt's Taxi

Clement Gilliatt and his Morse taxi

The Gilliatt family acted as tenant farmers at a farm belonging to the Harpur family on The Wold. In about 1910, unable to make a living from the farm, the family moved to 1 Church Street - Ivy Cottage. It is from here that Clement Gilliatt, one of the sons, ran a taxi business in 1919, followiing his return from World War I army service. The photograph above shows Clement at the wheel of the Morse car. His brother William is beside him.

The photograph below shows a later taxi with Florence Clipson (later Smith) standing on the running board.
