Urban District Council Election 1970
The End of an Era

After the 1970 BLUDC election Jack Benford cut out pictures from the
candidates' leaflets and used them to make this poster in his barber's
shop window in Duke Street.

The election to chose twelve councillors to serve on Burton Latimer Urban District Council on 9th May 1970 was the last election before the effect of local government re-organisation began to be felt. The following election, in 1973, was held in the knowledge that before its term was finished Burton Latimer would be absorbed into a new Borough of Kettering. The three polling stations were situated in the County Junior School now St. Mary's Primary Academy.

The names below are taken from the 'Notice of Poll' published by BLUDC on 1st May 1970. The resulting council consisted of six Independents, five Conservatives and one Labour councillor.
