Article from Stamford Mercury dated Friday 28 September 1860
Death of 11 year old boy

Fatal Accident

On Friday evening last Wm Keach, aged 11, was killed under the following somewhat singular circumstances:-

The boy was riding a horse belonging to Miss Martha Millar, for the purpose of bringing a load of barley from Burton Latimer Wold, and whilst pursuing his journey by some unaccountable means the horse threw him and fell upon him. The boy was discovered in his perilous position by three men who were passing the spot, and it required their united strength to drag the horse off the boy, whom they found quite dead.

An inquest on the body was held at the Duke's Arms inn on Saturday evening before Mr Marshall, coroner, when a verdict was returned in accordance with the evidence given by Dr Logan, “that death was caused by the pressure of the horse on the chest of the boy, which prevented respiration.” Strange to say, not a bone was broken.
